tuning up an old treadle machine
I haven’t had much spare time lately to play around with my new/old treadle machine (pout, pout) I’ve been trying to find a manual for it, but haven’t had any luck with tracking down any information for “Supremacy” machines. My fiance even took up the search (hmm… I wonder if he hopes that he’ll get a shirt out of it if he’s the one to find a manual :-) ) with no luck.
I did however find a fantastic site for treadle machines called “The Sewing Machine Shop“. They have a ton of links to other treadle sites, instructions on servicing machines and even tutorials on how to clean a grungy old machine :-)
I’ve heard fantastic things about treadle machines - let’s hope I can get mine up and running!

Fingers crossed for you. I’m pretty sure that my Mom had one… her mother’s I think and I played around with it. I loved the fact that you could control the speed. The newer versions tended to run away on me or the tension would be off. Yeah, I can sew a button, but never figured out how to use a proper sewing machine. Again… fingers crossed that you find a manual.

Ah, the old treadle sewing maching! That’s what I learned to sew on. My mother had one; my aunt and grandmother had one; my 4-H sewing leader, Aunt Mary, had one. We girls in the 4-H club were enthralled when Aunt Mary finally got an electric sewing machine. Then she wanted us to learn to sew on that machine that went way too fast. But I did with her guidance and encouragement.
