Tangled Thread - Tips, Trick and Tutorials in Sewing & Stitching

theme: Egypt

by Deb on March 13th, 2006

Deciding on a project to begin can be a daunting task for any of us, regardless of how experienced we are. For the beginner, the sheer number of choices is overwhelming. For the more advanced stitcher the problem tends to be choosing one project from the endless Wish List and seeing it through to completion.

I have an ongoing interest in all things Egyptian, and for the stitcher there are many patterns available. My impetus for keeping focused on stitching “Frederick the Literate” is the promise and lure of Teresa Wentzler’s “Egyptian Sampler” (which is whispering to me from my stash).

For one wanting a less ambitious (short-term reward, satisfaction of a project completion), perhaps one of Permin’s small kits would be just the thing.

    *waves hello*

Accidentally remembered and re-checked the URL and I see there are already entries in here.

Well, I’d say it is a difficult thing to decide on what type of design exactly to start, and is especially difficult for beginners to chose. Some say that it’s best to start with small simple designs, some say that a bit more advanced ones can keep one’s interest (the small simple designs are really not that interesting).

For me the thing has to definitely invoke interest and curiosity “what comes next” while working on it. And very often I just want to have it finished, that’s why I prefer medium-sized to small designs with advanced or expert difficulty.

Hi! I decided there’s no better time to start something, than the present. Blank screen being the worst sort to stare at.

I agree about wanting a piece just to be finished. I have already taken one break from Frederick to stitch the piece hanging in my bathroom. And I may decide to work on more small projects before I’m done with this. I can only look at “very dark red” floss for so long before I am sick-to-death of it.
