The Embroidery of Roses
Today I’m reviewing a lovely book called “Embroidery of Roses” by Ondori /Japan Publications. This book may be hard to find, since it was published in 1980, but if you see a copy and love roses, buy it!
The front inside cover says:
Here presented lovely roses in the world by the work of embroidery. The traditional sense of roses is created by delicate stitches and cleverly blended colors. Try to copy them stitch by stitch on your items.
This book is not for a beginning stitcher. While there are charts and patterns for all of the beautiful color pictures of projects, instructions are minimal and assume the stitcher understands what they are talking about. If you are not confident with free-hand stitching, you can use tracing paper and transfer markers to copy the designs to your material.
There are projects using embroidery, cutwork embroidery, cross stitch, and perhaps a couple are even needlepoint. There are examples of everything from tablecloths and table runners, to pillows and clothing embellishments. Also included are examples of roses used in lettering- but you’ll have to be clever to stitch these as there are no patterns included for the alphabets.
All in all, I am quite happy with this addition to my library.
