If you need to catch up on this project, here’s part one and part two :-)
I’ve been making candy sweethearts out of felt - hey, they’re calorie free that way! To finish the project, lay the heart on a sheet of the same colored felt, but don’t cut it out quite yet. Using a straight […]

It’s amazing what can be created using sewing machine thread! Carol Shinn, a Colorado-based artist creates photo-realistic art works using thread painting. Thread painting is essentially using thread & your sewing machine to create a work of art, instead paints & brushes.
Go check out her website - and make sure you check out the gallery!

Now that Christmas is over I finally get to share everything I was working away on in December! I’ve been wanting to make a memory quilt for my brother & his new wife since they got married in May. I decided that it would make a great Christmas present for them :-)
I collected some of […]

I’m working on a series of posts to commemorate the New Year and wanted to start off with my favorite tutorials on Tangled Thread:
embroidered crazy-quilt Christmas card
mini Hallowe’en bag
autumn-themed yo-yo wreath
embroidered butterfly memory box
cooling bandana (not really necessary right now - but it’ll be warm sometime…)

I know some people think that gift cards are “cheating”, but I actually like getting them :-) If you want to make your gift card presents a little more personalized, how about making a little embroidered stocking to tuck the card into?
I cut out the outline of a stocking from white glitter felt (the stiffer […]

Okay, so it’s taken me a day longer to post part two of the mini embroidered Hallwe’en bag :-)
After the paint has dried thoroughly, heat set it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. I used three colors of thread to free-motion embroider around the outlines of the pumpkin, moon & leaf:
I used lime green & white […]

Here’s how I’m using my embroidered panel of silk:
I pressed the raw edges to the wrong side, to make a strip 3.5 inches wide. I glued it onto a large cardboard hatbox I painted (and will stamp, using the same butterfly stamps) I wanted to secure the lid in place, so I […]

Here’s the painted silk, after I let it dry overnight and then embroidered:
I did simple free-motion machine embroidery outlining the butterflies. I used rayon embroidery thread, which I love using for projects like this because of the sheen.
If I had more time, I would get more detailed with embroidering the butterfly wings - but I […]

Did you know that the rubber stamp & scrapbooking aisles at your local craft store can hold all sorts of treasures for embroidery & fiber people?
I’m making a memory box and wanted to have a ribbon wrapped around it. I’ve got some luscious chocolate-brown dupioni silk that’s the perfect color. But, it’s a little plain […]

I used to write Hankering For Yarn, (before my talented mom took it over :-) ) and wanted to share a tutorial I wrote for it last spring.
It’s a variation on my fabric fusion technique, but I’m using scraps of yarn & then embroidering the finished piece.
Here’s part one
and part two
Have fun :-)
