Sunday Sewing Humor

by Cathy on October 15th, 2006

This story was not funny at the time it happened but it is a funny memory now.  My friend, Anne, has an only child, Emily.  When Emily was born, Anne made the decision to be a stay at home mom.  Since Anne was a fairly accomplished seamstress she made a lot of Emily’s clothes - mostly easy stuff at first.  When Emily was 7 years old, Anne decided to make a fancy Christmas dress for Emily to wear to Grandma’s house on Christmas Eve.
This was the most difficult item of clothing Anne ever tried to make but all went well until the sleeves.  They were complete and ready to be set into the dress.  Surger at the ready, Anne put the sleeves in.  Viola - the dress was nearly complete - and a day early to boot.

But wait - she turned the dress right side out and what did she find? The sleeves were upside down!  She had worked so hard to make the dress really lovely that when she saw those upside down sleeves she threw the dress away and put up her surger - for years!

If you have a horror story about sewing that you can laugh at now, I’d love to hear it.
