sewing memorial textiles
My mother has been writing about her part in creating a group of textiles as a tribute to my grandmother, who passed away last May. I thought I should let you know what I’ve been up to…

We’re making a series of runners for my grandmother’s church, using velvet and hand-woven bands on the edges. I’m sewing the fabric part and assembling everything and Noreen is weaving the bands to finish the edges.
I think it took me close to ten tries to get a runner I was happy with! The velvet puckered, or the lining didn’t hang right… any number of things just weren’t working. I simply wasn’t willing to put my name on a project that wasn’t right - it’s not professional.
I finally gave in and hand-sewed the entire runner - one down, several more to go!

Oh, Chloe! You are doing such a gorgeous job on these! The whole family really appreciates all your hard work.
I know that Nanna is smiling down on us and is so pleased with them.
It’s a joy to work together on this project.
Many many many hours are going into this…..
