SBQ- finishes and freebies…

by Deb on June 17th, 2006

Today’s “Stitching Blogger’s Question” is two for one since one
question was asked back in December. I am asking again because it was
suggested by a newer member and we have had LOTS of new people join
since I took the SBQ over in January! Feel free to answer either
question (or both if you feel like it!)

Today’s first question was suggested by Dawn
(http://crafterscreations.blogspot.com) and is:

Do you finish all your finished pieces? (pillow, frame, etc,) If so,
how do you finish the pieces? If not what do you do with them?

Today’s second question is:
What is your opinion of Internet “freebies?”

permalink

Some pieces are finished, and some just hide in the drawer. Some descendent will find them one day and can do something with it then, haha.

Freebies can be great, or they can be junk. I like that the designers who create very large projects often offer small freebies so a stitcher can get a feel for their work. I can try a small project, have something beautiful as an end-result, and decide if I want to tackle a large one. It fosters good-will towards the designer, and makes me more likely to end up buying one of their bigger projects. I don’t really want to invest the money into purchasing a pattern and supplies for a large project that turns out to be something I loathe.

A lot of sites offer freebies which are nothing but junk. The patterns look tacky or “off” when you look at them online, and they don’t look any better when printed out. I would hesitate to even stitch such an ugly thing, unless I was a beginning stitcher and wanted to practice making ‘x’s and translating a chart to fabric. Even then, why waste one’s time to stitch something less-than-pleasing? Quality matters.
