Sampler Border progress

by Deb on May 28th, 2006

Just a short note this morning. The last few days I’ve indulged in a frenzy of combining colors and stitching like mad, and what I have to show for it includes a slightly stiff arm and framing for border motifs across the top of the Egyptian Sampler. I am feeling rather clever for stitching in this manner. The little motifs would be a major hassle if I had to fuss with the floss tails for each one, but with the outline frame of the border stitched, I have somewhere on the back to catch tails. This makes the stitching a lot more pleasant. We’re having a lot of cloudy rainy weather here, so I may be able to post a new progress photo early in the week. :)

Nice, nice :) Havce you decided to complete the whole border before moving on to the rest of the design?

Thanks! I haven’t made a firm decision on my order of stitching, though I think I’ll wait until I’m getting close to the bottom of the scroll frame before I roll the cloth up a bit. I will probably work on the center designs before moving downward on the cloth though, because to just stitch the border endlessly will drive me nuts. :D

    Hello All,
I am about to being the Egyptian Sampler and I have what may be a silly question. In looking at the pattern, how do you know when to make “over two fabric threads” versus “over one fabric thread” (covering 2 squares vs. one)? Is it a choice you make to use 2 squares per cross stirch or 1 square per cross stitch, and if that is the case, wouldn’t using 1 square for each cross stitch make the finish Sampler much smaller than 171/2 x 221/3? Hope this is not a stupid question. LOL

Hi David - Not a silly question at all. Are you using Teresa Wentzler’s chart? Here is what she says, ” When both over-two and over-one stitching are present in a design, there is almost always a separate chart included for the over-one portion(s).”

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Cathy,

Thanks for the reply. I am using the Teresa Wentzler chart and I did eventually notice that there are separate pages for items that are over-one stitching.
So I guess that means everything is over-two except the over-ones. LOL
    Again…thanks for replying.
    Best

Sometimes those charts can be confusing. I have to admit that I have been confused at least more than once!
