One of my favorite techniques for making art quilts or mixed media work, is using my sewing machine on a free-motion stitch and sandwiching layers of differents materials together.

This is my “Koi Fish 2” quilt.

It’s one I’ve used many times over the years and depending what materials you use, can have many different looks.

My “Cactus Bloom” quilt

I’ve even used this technique to create purses & handbags:
