Patterns bargain
Eventually I think I might want to stitch Mirabilia’s “Cinderella“, but first I want to stitch a couple of their smaller free patterns (Bumblebee and Gold Butterfly) to see if I want to tackle a large project of theirs. This means locating and purchasing all of the bits & bobs to stitch them, which includes a lot of Mill Hill beads and Kreinik #4 braid.
Locally I have few places to shop for needlework supplies. Between all of the stores, I can find most of the items for specialty stitching (as long as you don’t want something more exotic than cotton or metallic floss and Mill Hill beads). Today I found two more of the Mill Hill #s, but I also detoured through the cross stitch patterns section to see what was on sale.
I found one leaflet “Scripture Wreath“; and Teresa Wentzler’s Tea Scene pattern. $1.00 each. Yes, you read that right. $1 for a TW chart. So, the moral of this tale is this: take the time to go through the sale products when you go shopping! Normally I don’t find anything I like, but today was a jackpot moment. I nearly embarrassed myself with dancing and squealing, but managed to contain myself to just an “ooooh” as I put them in my basket.

Those Mirabilia free designs seem advanced enough. Would be interesting to see how it goes if you decide to stitch some of them :)
The “sale” thing - I can already understand a bit more why many ppl have so much charts without Enabling *g* Something that I cannot imagine here, a “sale”. Heh. It is for sure that if something like this could ever be found for $1 in the rest of the world, the copyright infr. issues wouldn’t be so big of a problem. Because they’re not about morals, but rather incorrect marketing approach.
Yesterday I visited a new craft shop and talked a bit with the owner; she is insterested in cross stitching (a rare sight, an elderly lady who does cross stitch and not gobelins), and since we such souls are rare here, she did ask me to come again for a cup of coffee, show my works and even promised that I can rummage through the shop :O Of course I spent quite a sum in there and will be shopping there again, so it is almost sure we will Enable each other. She might have fabric leftovers, I’d be very fortunate with them because the prices are for gods, not men.

Indeed most of the people who get most upset about copyright do not seem to understand that having stash products even -available- is not always true for other countries. They say “oh just go buy it off the internet” which just shows they don’t understand about import taxes and fees either.
I know how lucky I am that I can just go to the store, and buy something relatively cheaply. And find bargains, and sometimes even the second-hand charity shops will have stash that someone donated. That stuff is even cheaper (though I haven’t been so lucky to find any yet).
What I can’t find, because I don’t live in a large enough metropolitan area, is a shop that carries all the specialty fabrics and flosses and such, not to mention even a good selection of charts (most of what I can find are kits, and never L&L, Mirabilia, etc; it’s always Dimensions and sometimes Bucilla). Even living in the USA there are things I would have to special order online :/ Makes me wish I had the wealth of gods just so I could make a giant order of EVERYthing, and have my own private store LOL.
I am slowly getting the bits I need to stitch the insect patterns, and once I have all of the flosses and beads and fabric, I’ll be posting progress pics. :) Special ordering Kreiniks is going to be spendy though, so it will have to wait.

Have you seen this:
http://www.dmc.com/majic/pageServer/1v010000pw/en_US/index.html
The “Light effects” DMC speciality threads. In the russian forums they say that someone used them for stitching snow, mixing one strand white and one strand of the illuminating thread. Shining snow on black fabric. And also glowing in the dark, surrounding the framed painting with a smooth white light…
I am bad, I know :P But if we ever have EVERYTHING, we’ll stop wanting and this is not good :)
