Needlecase update
I only did a bit of needlework this weekend, but what I did was a nice challenge. I stitched my first hardanger block Ever. It looks a bit mangled, what I would call “Charlie Brown”. I’m going to leave it as-is, so that some day when I can stitch beautiful hardanger in my sleep, I can look back at this and feel proud of how far I’ve come.
I meant to take a picture after I’d stitched the kloster blocks, and snipped the threads, but not pulled them out, and forgot. Gah! Evening stitching is not always the smart thing to do! I did take a couple pictures as I worked the ‘woven bars’:
The first woven bar- I wrapped the wrong direction, not really understanding what I was doing.

Here I’ve completed the second woven bar:
I decided to ‘call it a night’ and stop stitching after working the two Rhodes Butterflies (which I’d never stitched before either)- because the first one I placed one thread too low, and the second one I squished one thread too narrow. I’m going to leave them as-is, because the errors aren’t terribly noticeable, the backstitch outlining can still be done in the correct spot, and it serves as a lesson to stop stitching when my eyes start getting tired.

I’d say quite well done :) Minding that I see it to be very difficult to do (the hardanger). Someone else who’s used to it might not say so, but for me it is. The technique is very delicate and the combination with cross-stitch gives a stunning result.

Thanks :) I think there are some tricks to this method that I have yet to learn. Like where the wrapped threads meet up with the rest of the fabric, and they have some gap? maybe doing one wrap around all four threads right there would help keep it all lined up/tidy looking. hm. too bad it isn’t a Needlecase day. :D I may end up having to “adjust” my Rotation heh. Even though the hardanger is tricky, I really like it, and I agree it is especially nice in combo with cross-stitch.
