My First Project
Let me tell you about my first crochet project. It was an afghan! Yes - you heard me correctly. I crocheted an afghan for my very first project. My instructor crocheted the first row, showed me how to turn and did half the second row. Then it was up to me. I crocheted my little heart out! When I had done what seemed like 1,000 rows, I decided to spread it out and admire my work. Oh No! It was looking like a pyramid!
I quit right then. I almost took it out but decided to show my instructor what I had done. She knew immediately that I wasn’t turning correctly. I was losing a stitch on each end of every row. Yes - it would have been a perfect pyramid if I had continued. So - we took it out and started over. I had already decided that I simply could not crochet. My friend reminded me of my beautiful, even stitches and told me that indeed, I could crochet. I just needed to learn how to turn. She patiently crocheted the first row and showed me again how to turn. Then it was mine. I crocheted to the end of that row and had her watch as I turned. I had learned. I crocheted to the end of the third row and had her watch as I turned. I HAD IT!!
My afghan was lovely. Think what I would have missed if I had given up. Since then I have done many lovely afghans, each one a bit more difficult than the last.
Do you have a ‘first’ story? If so - share it with us. I’m sure most of us have been there.
