Inspiration
Random thoughts often pop into my head throughout my day, and today was no different than usual. Occasionally a particular thought will rattle around a while until I succumb to curiosity.
I was thinking about the various projects I’ve begun and not yet finished. There’s the applique quilt my mother made for me about 20 years ago. The embroidery holding the iris petals and stems onto the blocks is failing in places. I’m going over all of them with new floss (directly on top of the old floss), and hoping that this will keep my quilt from disintigrating any further. And then there’s the quilt top my Grandmother sent as a wedding gift. At some point I need to get backing fabric and quilt the top, a batting, and the back together. Preferably with pretty needlework stitches instead of plain Jane running stitches. I also have a tablecloth which was in my Great Aunt’s stash, which is, I think, a cutwork embroidery piece. This is somewhat intimidating and I haven’t even looked at it in a long time. My excuse is that I have yet to decide what color of floss I want to use for it. I have two embroidery projects: a set of pillowcases, and a medieval gown. The pillowcases will be finished years before the gown. The gown I have yet to finish inking my stitching lines on. I have a cross stitch project on my scroll frame (Frederick) and another waiting in my canvas tote bag (Egyptian Sampler).
None of this includes any secret desires I harbor to crochet delicate lace edgings for handkerchiefs, to learn to knit well enough to make cozy patterned socks, to create an appliqued Sunbonnet Sue quilt for my friend, the family tree project, the scrapbooking, bead curtains made from beading wire and glass beads,… the list is so long I’ve forgotten half of what is even on it!
So the thought which bubbled forth into curiosity was “Where does Inspiration come from? Why do some people have it ooze to the surface from within and others seek it from without?” And then my brain quit thinking deep thoughts and commanded my fingers to perform a Google search for needlework inspiration. For all of you who enjoy seeing the possibilities beyond a chart or kit that confines you to someone else’s box, The Gallery at The CARON Collection has -hours- of inspiration just waiting for the unsuspecting browser to stumble upon.
I need more ideas and projects about as much as I need a hole in the head, but that doesn’t stop me from percolating them anyway!

Perhaps the sources of inspiration have something to do with whether the person is more intravert or extrovert. For me it always was coming from outside - not only needlework but even spiritually-wise, those invisible triggers touching something within me, be them even some moments from movies that most just rather watch through without endulging especially, or the Voices in writings.
/is starting to feel a slight buzzing temptation to also stitch Egyptian Sampler. Must.resist, ya know? I have whole two projects to do at the moment. But will go to buy some evenweave this weekend and try something very small on it.

I find that I will see something or read or hear about it, that awakens something that was waiting to be discovered. But I don’t know if I would have ever discovered it without the outside nudge.
I’m resisting the urge to buy a second scroll frame to start Egyptian Sampler before I’m done with Frederick…
