Igolochkoy or Russian punch-needle embroidery

by Chloe on November 6th, 2007

Is there a technique that you used to love doing but haven’t had the time/energy/whatever for lately?

I’ve been thinking about taking up igolochkoy again.  It’s also known as Russian punch-needle embroidery and I used to love doing it as a child & teenager.  It’s a technique of embroidery, using a fine needle to push floss or thread through fabric, leaving a little loop on the right side.  When it’s finished the surface almost feels like velvet or carpet.

These are the original punches I learned with - unfortunately I’ve lost mine!

I’ve been browsing and have found some charming patterns that would be perfect for getting back into igolochkoy:

These Christmas ornaments are from Designs from the Pep’r Pot.

This bird was designed by Full Circle.

So there’s my “lost” technique that I’d like to get back into - what’s yours?

That looks interesting, at this rate I’m going to need a second job to afford all the things I want to try.

Oh Chloe….I haven’t thought about Igolochkoy for a while now. I did a couple of pieces when your mom taught me and I love it. It is something that I would like to do again! What a great idea for Christmas ornaments or decorations or a little patch to embellish a jacket or ….. well, you know….

    Hugs,

Lockerhooking is what I want to try. I heard about it at a rughooking class over the weekend and it sounds like such fun!
