igolochkoy Christmas tree ornament
I finally had a chance to sit down this afternoon and finish the embroidery on my latest project, an igolochkoy (Russian punch needle embroidery) Christmas tree ornament:

I used plain cotton DMC floss for the berries, outline of the leaves & the border. The pale green leaves are silk floss that I picked up in a little silk shop in Vancouver. The cream floss is an ombre “Waterlilies” floss by Caron.
I didn’t use a pattern for this project, I just drew right on the fabric - iron on transfers would work great though too! I can definitely tell that I haven’t done any igolochkoy in awhile, I need more time to get my stitches nice & even :-)
I found one video on YouTube that shows how to thread an igolochkoy needle - it’s not in English though…

When it looks that good with you being out of practice it’s going to look wonderful with practice.

I agree with Karen! Your stitches look even in the picture. I think I might want to try this, but I couldn’t tell enough from the video. Is there 2 threads in the needle? maybe I need to watch it again.

Actually, I’ve used everything from one strand to four in the one ornament. I’m using a medium igolochkoy needle, which normally works best with three threads (half of one strand) of embroidery floss. Since I’m using several different types of thread, I needed to use different amounts of threads to get the same overall thickness of floss.
