how-to of the day - stamped scrapbook ribbons

by Chloe on June 5th, 2008

I was browsing through my favorite craft store the other day and made a trip down the scrap booking aisle (you can find some great fiber art supplies there!).  I happened to notice a package of cotton fabric, cut into strips and then stamped - from a trendy new designer.

I then looked at the price tag.

Youch!

I decided that $6.95 was a tad too steep… however - that inspired me to try stamping my own scrapbooking ribbons.

To begin, you’ll need strips of fine-grained fabric (I’m using a taffeta for this sample) or ribbon.  You’ll also need an opaque ink stamp pad (I’m using Color Box metallic inks for this how-to) and stamps:

I’m using clear stamps because I like that I can see exactly where I’m placing the stamp.

Stamp the ribbon or fabric just the way you would stamp paper.  Use a firm surface and don’t move the stamp around - it will smear otherwise!

Here are two finished ribbons:

The top sample is grosgrain ribbon and the bottom is a faux-silk taffeta.  Let the ribbons dry thoroughly before using them - I’d recommend letting them dry overnight.
