finished how-to of the day: embroidered felt sweethearts

by Chloe on February 1st, 2008

If you need to catch up on this project, here’s part one and part two :-)

I’ve been making candy sweethearts out of felt - hey, they’re calorie free that way!  To finish the project, lay the heart on a sheet of the same colored felt, but don’t cut it out quite yet.  Using a straight stitch, sew around the edges (I used a 1/8″ seam allowance).  Okay, now you can cut them out!  Sewing them on a larger sheet of felt makes it easier to prevent the felt pucking or getting pulled out of shape.  Trim the loose threads.

I decided to use five of the hearts to make a little mini garland and to leave one as an ornament.  I used a length of rat tail cord and a darning needle to string the hearts.  I just used a loop of the same cord to finish off the ornaments.

So there you go - candy sweethearts with no calories!
