Crazy Needlebooks!

by Deb on May 23rd, 2006

A while back when I was looking for a folding fabric needlekeeper, I came across this site with instructions on making a needlebook using crazy quilting for the outsides.

I absolutely adore the needlebooks Annie shares with us, the bits of lace, the delicate embroidery stitches, the beads and buttons. If (when?) I make one of these, I plan on using a nice felted wool for the pages that needles stick in. I think it will be better in terms of not-tarnishing, than some of the synthetic felts.

The instructions are clear and complete, and she includes a lovely link to another tutorial on her site for the methodology of crazy quilting. Be sure to check out the page with her samples of really awesome embroidery stitches too!

I like her learning section. Interesting, under which “structural group” go the eyelet stitches (algerian eye, diamond eyelet, etc). She doesn’t mention those.

Pam Kellogg also makes similar quilts

I used to have a large box full of small scraps of fabrics, which I’d planned to use to make Barbie-sized clothing. I never did, and when I ran out of space for Stuff, I got rid of stuff I wasn’t using. A shame, because Pam’s “The Moonlit Peacock” is stunning (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kittyandme/151132933/) and all those little scraps would have been perfect for making crazy quilt blocks.
