Aww - I have have the best readers :-) Thank you all for your lovely comments, things are feeling much more positive today!
Okay, so we last left off with a painted, but not embroidered piece of fabric. But do you really know where you want to embroider? Do you want to take […]

how-to of the day: embroidered felt sweethearts

Sorry for the delay in getting this published :-)  Here’s how I made sweethearts out of felt - not candy!
I asked you to get some candy-colored felt, along with a heart-shaped cookie cutter (or other heart-shaped template) in my last post.

Use the cookie cutter as a template and trace around it - using a water-soluble […]

fiber art inspiration - Carol Shinn

It’s amazing what can be created using sewing machine thread!  Carol Shinn, a Colorado-based artist creates photo-realistic art works using thread painting.  Thread painting is essentially using thread & your sewing machine to create a work of art, instead paints & brushes.
Go check out her website - and make sure you check out the gallery!

Now that Christmas is over I finally get to share everything I was working away on in December!  I’ve been wanting to make a memory quilt for my brother & his new wife since they got married in May.  I decided that it would make a great Christmas present for them :-)

easy ribbon roses
embroidered monogrammed cards
machine fusion fabric (don’t […]

how-to of the day: paw-print ornaments, part two

I finally got the paw-print ornament done… but I ended up using a different fabric than I started out with :-)
Here’s how it turned out:

I used my embroidery machine to write my dog’s name & “Christmas 2007″ with plain white thread.   I trimmed around the edges and then used a decorative zig-zag stitch to sew […]

Christmas gifts for the doll house fan

My mom made a Christmas request for her spool-knitted & carved doll, Tottie Tomato.  She asked for accessories or other things that she could use in photographs with Tottie.
I’ve been thinking about different things that I could make, embroidered pillows perhaps?  Or even an eensy weensy little yo-yo quilt - but I decided on a […]

using iron-on transfer to make Christmas ornaments

I was leafing through some of my iron-on embroidery transfer books this morning and couldn’t resist coming up with a Christmas project using them.
I’m using transfer from the Dover book “Art Nouveau Floral Iron-On Transfer Patterns”, by Ed Sibbett Jr.
I started off by following the directions to transfer the image onto some plain, unbleached muslin:

The […]

Sidewinder bobbin winder from Wrights

I’ve heard some good things about the new “Sidewinder” portable bobbin winder from Wright’s.

It’s a little gadget (5.25″ X 3.5″ X 3″ high) that allows you to wind bobbins in the middle of a project without having to stop & unthread your machine.
I must admit, I got spoiled by my first sewing machine - it […]
