I thought I should share with you what I’ve been working on for the past several weeks… As you know, I’ve been working with my mom, Noreen, to create a set of memorial textiles (antependia - or sacred textiles) for my grandmother’s church.
It’s been exactly a year ago today that my beloved Nana passed away […]

Don’t worry - the rest of the silk paper tutorial is coming soon :-) I’ve got an easy kids craft, perfect for getting kids interested in sewing:
Cut two basic flower shapes from felt and sandwich a pipe-cleaner (folded in half and twisted together) between the two. Cut a small circle from a contrasting piece of […]

Here are all the links to create your own recycled reversible totebag:
Part one - the t-shirt
Part two - cutting it out
Part three - sewing and construction
And here’s the finished totebag:
And if I want to reverse it - here’s how it looks:
Of course, ironing probably would have been a good idea to… those little pesky details […]

My mother has been writing about her part in creating a group of textiles as a tribute to my grandmother, who passed away last May. I thought I should let you know what I’ve been up to…
We’re making a series of runners for my grandmother’s church, using velvet and hand-woven bands on the edges. […]

I know that this project is a little late, seeing as it’s the Easter weekend already, but you’ve still got a couple of days!
To begin, cut egg shapes out of different colored felt - these ones are approximately two inches wide:
Place them on a second piece of felt, but don’t cut it out. Instead embroider […]

You all know that I love making fabric gift bags for Christmas - but they’re great wrapping almost any kind of present. Fabric gift bags are a great way of using fabric that you love, bought and aren’t quite sure how to use up… I’m not sure if I want to wear a shirt […]

I’ve been hankering after a warm wrap or shawl that I could wear out in the evenings if I don’t want to deal with a full coat. I didn’t have anything in my stash that would work for it, so I just kept that wish in the back of my mind.
During the big New Year’s […]

If you need to catch up on this project, here’s part one and part two :-)
I’ve been making candy sweethearts out of felt - hey, they’re calorie free that way! To finish the project, lay the heart on a sheet of the same colored felt, but don’t cut it out quite yet. Using a straight […]

I showed you how I made the softies hearts yesterday - would you like to see how they turned out?
They also look really neat with the hanging loops interlocked together, like this:
Of course, now I want to make more and embroider them! Too many projects, not enough time…

I thought it would be fun to do a machine-sewn project for Valentine’s day, but didn’t feel like making anything too cutesy. The solution? Off-kilter, wobbly hearts!
To start off with you’ll need a selection of fabric (I’m using printed 100% cotton quilting fabric) scissors, thread, fiber-fill and a hand-sewing needle.
Because I don’t want the hearts […]
