Paper towel challenge

Sorry for the lack of posting yesterday - I had a glass light fixture fall off the ceiling in my studio!  Luckily I wasn’t in my studio at the time, but it made a heck of a racket and I have glass shards in boxes of fabric, on the floor and sprinkled onto my books.  […]

welcome to our offices…

As I mentioned yesterday, the Lifestyles channel is holding a group reveal of our blogging locations.  We blog from couches, offices, from the kitchen table or (in my case :-) from busy, colorful studios!  Here’s the list of all the bloggers who participated:
Sandy Mitchell - All Holidays Cafe
Gayla McCord - MomGadget also blogging at Dating […]

where I blog from

The Lifestyles channel is sharing our offices & blogging locations over the next couple of days.
I normally write in the mornings, in my studio/office… after the coffee has time to reach my neurons and wake me up :-) Here’s what the view is like from my studio window, which is right next my […]

De-Stash Your Studio challenge - the final check in

It’s Earth Day my lovely readers, and do you know what that means?  The end of the De-Stash Challenge!
I’ve kept my promise, I haven’t bought any fabric since the challenge began, on March 17th.   Those of you who know me well, know that isn’t the easiest thing for me :-)  I’ve only been seriously tempted […]

tip of the day - sewing with velvet

I’ve done quite a bit of sewing in my life… I’ve sewn everything from horse blankets to my duppioni silk wedding.  I can make a tailored men’s dress shirt or a bed-size quilt.  There are still fabrics that challenge me…  I’ve come close to crying when I was sewing a faux-patent leather jacket (hint - […]

sewing memorial textiles

My mother has been writing about her part in creating a group of textiles as a tribute to my grandmother, who passed away last May.  I thought I should let you know what I’ve been up to…

We’re making a series of runners for my grandmother’s church, using velvet and hand-woven bands on the edges.   […]

have I been sewing?

Karen asked me a question through a comment - have I actually had time to make any of the outfits I was planning with these fabrics?
Well… actually yes!  I sewed a hoodie from the green faux silk knit - but I don’t have a good photograph of it yet, so that will have to wait […]

De-Stash Your Studio challenge - week two check in

How are you doing with the de-stashing?  I’ve treated myself to several patterns (hey, when they’re on sale for $1.99 you can’t help it!) but I’ve been very good and not bought any fabric.
I have run into one little problem though…
I’ve bought a couple of dress patterns, (including this one) and would like to make […]

I need your opinion please

I love the way this dress looks on the pattern envelope:

image source: Simplicity Patterns (pattern #2981)
But I’m not sure how it would look on me…. I’m 5′10″, with a proportionally long waist and a pear or “A” shaped figure - and I’m in my late-ish twenties :-)
Any opinions?   I’ve got a new poll set […]

playing with your fabric stash

I wanted to mention that I’m not trying to make people feel bad by holding a De-Stash challenge!  I’m just trying to be more mindful when I’m shopping :-)  Have fun with your fabric stash - in fact, I want you to go and play in it!
When was the last time you dug through your […]
