adventures in upholstery
Our couch has seen better days.
It was difficult to stand up from, made your legs fall asleep and looked, well - saggy.
We had two options, buy a new couch or replace the cushions.
I’ve replaced & recovered (and re-slipcovered) several chairs over the years so I wasn’t too concerned about replacing the foam.
My DH & I took the measurements, bought the foam & cut it to size. Due to the couch being an odd depth we had to add an extra strip of foam to the front of the cushions. It glued together nicely (read the label before you glue foam - some glues will eat foam!).
After years of dogs sleeping the couch it seemed wise to clean the covers before putting them on the new foam :-)
The first cover went on beautifully.
Then I heard an “oops”.
Oops is not a good word.
It seems that 20 years of use was too much for the slightly-wimpy looking zipper. Several teeth pulled out and the zipper separated.
I don’t keep a lot of upholstery weight zippers around the house, so we visited our local fabric store.
Bad idea on a 50% sale weekend…
We finally escaped and I repaired the cover:

The new zipper works great, the cushions are much more comfortable and most importantly…
The dogs approve :-)
